Electrolytes
The passion of 2 Bio’s and a pharmacist came together with an idea: to create a sports nutrition line specifically designed not just for Namibia, but for the individual athlete. Our goal was clear—provide a product that enhances performance without compromise. A product that reflects purity—no fillers, no artificial colorants, no sugar. Just real ingredients that work, especially in Namibia's extreme conditions.
As endurance athletes ourselves, we faced a frustrating problem—finding an effective, affordable electrolyte product that could actually combat cramps during long training sessions or races. We tried everything, but it was always the same—double doses to get the results we needed, driving up our monthly supplement costs. It wasn’t sustainable, and frankly, it wasn’t working.
That’s when I-Pure was born. Right here in this laboritory.
Why i-Pure?
We crafted a double-strength electrolyte that delivers on both quality and value—costing only N$16 per sachet. It’s packed with everything you need to stay hydrated and fight cramps through high-intensity training or even the grueling heat of a Namibian race. Since we started testing it, none of us have experienced cramps again—it's been two years of smooth rides, including solo Desert Dash finishes, where we handed out I-Pure to cramping cyclists along the way.
But it’s not just about the results; it’s about how we made it. We’ll walk you through the science behind each ingredient in our next videos. Here's a quick preview:

In the upcoming videos, we’ll dive deeper into why each ingredient is included, and how we arrived at the exact doses for peak performance.
I-Pure is more than a product—it’s the result of passion, testing, and a drive to give athletes exactly what they need to perform their best in even the most challenging conditions.
Sodium plays a crucial role for endurance athletes due to several key factors, including electrolyte balance. It is a primary electrolyte that helps maintain the balance of fluids in and around the cells during prolonged endurance activities. Athletes lose sodium through sweat—especially in the Namibian heat—and replenishing it is essential to prevent imbalances that can lead to dehydration or overhydration, a topic we will discuss later.
Sodium is vital for proper muscle contraction and nerve function. An imbalance can lead to muscle cramps, weakness, or spasms, all of which can impair performance. Additionally, sodium helps regulate blood pressure and blood volume by retaining fluid, thereby increasing both. This process is critical for maintaining circulation and ensuring adequate oxygen delivery during intense exercise.
If you are an athlete with uncontrolled high blood pressure, it is always best to consult your doctor before using any high-sodium sports nutrition product. However, it is important to note that even individuals with high blood pressure need to replenish sodium—especially during exercise—to prevent hyponatremia. Maintaining a low-sodium diet is different from using sodium during exercise when it is actually needed.
What is hyponatremia? When you consume too much water without adequate sodium, it can lead to a dangerous condition called hyponatremia. This condition is characterized by low sodium levels in the blood and can cause symptoms such as nausea, headache, and confusion, as well as severe cases leading to seizures and coma. If you are an athlete who experiences swelling during exercise, it might be due to a low sodium level.
Proper sodium intake is very important because it can help sustain endurance performance by supporting cardiovascular function and preventing early fatigue caused by electrolyte imbalances.
Buffering lactic acid and reducing muscle acidosis is one of the key factors for any endurance athlete. During prolonged exercise—especially at high intensities—the body breaks down glucose for energy through anaerobic metabolism. This process leads to the production of lactic acid, which dissociates into lactate and hydrogen ions. The buildup of these hydrogen ions results in a drop in pH in the muscle, leading to muscle acidosis. This acidic environment contributes to the feeling of muscle burn and fatigue, and eventually to the onset of muscle failure.
The role of sodium bicarbonate is to buffer and neutralize the excess hydrogen ions, helping to maintain the pH levels within both the muscles and the bloodstream. By buffering the lactic acid and reducing muscle acidosis, sodium bicarbonate can delay the onset of fatigue and improve performance during high-intensity or prolonged endurance exercises.
Magnesium malate is often considered one of the best forms of magnesium for any endurance athlete. It contains malic acid, which plays a key role in the energy-producing cycle by helping to generate ATP. This is especially beneficial for endurance athletes who require sustained energy output over long periods.
Magnesium is also essential for muscle contraction and relaxation, so magnesium malate can help reduce muscle cramps and soreness, thereby promoting better recovery after intense workouts. Additionally, magnesium malate has very high bioavailability, meaning that the actual amount of magnesium provided is well absorbed by the body, making a significant difference in results.
The malic acid in magnesium malate has been shown to help reduce fatigue and improve energy production. Magnesium plays a crucial role in the body and is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions every day, including those related to metabolism and energy production.
Overall, the combination of benefits from magnesium malate makes it particularly suited for athletes who need to maintain energy levels, support muscle function, and recover effectively. This formulation contains 600 mg of magnesium malate, which is almost double the magnesium content found in most other electrolyte products on the market.
Potassium is critical for endurance athletes for several key reasons. It is a major intracellular electrolyte that helps maintain fluid balance and supports normal cell function. During prolonged exercise, athletes lose potassium through sweat, and replenishing it is vital to prevent imbalances that can lead to dehydration and impair performance.
Potassium is also essential for proper muscle contraction and nerve function. Low potassium levels can cause muscle cramps, weakness, and fatigue, all of which can hinder your endurance. In addition, potassium plays a crucial role in maintaining heart rhythm. Adequate potassium levels help regulate heart rhythm, which is especially important during intense physical exercise. Potassium also counteracts the effects of sodium on the cardiovascular system and helps regulate blood pressure—a balance that is essential for optimal cardiovascular function.
Furthermore, potassium is involved in carbohydrate metabolism, helping to convert glucose into glycogen—the stored form of glucose in muscles and the liver—which serves as a primary energy source during prolonged exercise. By supporting nerve and muscle function, potassium helps delay the onset of fatigue during your activities.
In I-Pure, we have chosen a particular form of potassium: potassium citrate and potassium chloride. Potassium chloride is very soluble in water and is easily absorbed by the gut without causing any gastrointestinal disturbances. Potassium citrate, on the other hand, helps prevent the formation of kidney stones, which is one of the serious side effects of dehydration.
Zinc is vital in energy production. It is involved in numerous enzymatic reactions, including those that regulate energy metabolism. Zinc helps break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, providing the energy needed for sustained endurance activities.
Zinc also plays a role in protein synthesis, which is essential for muscle repair and recovery after a long, intense workout. It aids in tissue regeneration and helps maintain muscle health.
Additionally, zinc functions as an antioxidant, protecting cells from the oxidative stress induced by prolonged physical exertion. This antioxidant action can help reduce muscle damage and improve recovery.
Moreover, zinc is essential for the production of several hormones, including testosterone, which plays a role in muscle growth and repair. Maintaining hormonal balance is important for endurance athletes to support muscle recovery and overall performance.
Calcium is essential for muscle contraction. When a muscle is stimulated to contract, calcium ions are released inside the muscle fibers, allowing them to interact with proteins like actin and myosin. This interaction facilitates muscle contraction.
For endurance athletes, the ability to maintain consistent and efficient muscle function during prolonged periods of activity is vital. Adequate calcium levels help prevent muscle cramps, spasms, and fatigue, which can hinder performance. After intense training or competition, calcium plays a crucial role in the repair and rebuilding of muscles, tissues, and bones. It works in concert with other nutrients, such as vitamin D and magnesium, to ensure effective recovery by aiding muscle repair.
Proper calcium intake can shorten recovery times and reduce the risk of injuries that may result from muscle fatigue or bone weakening.
Thiamine is a key coenzyme in the metabolism of carbohydrates. It helps convert carbohydrates—including glucose—into energy, which is our primary fuel. Thiamine acts as a cofactor for enzymes in the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex—a term that might sound like a tongue twister—which plays a crucial role in converting pyruvate, the end product of glucose metabolism, into acetyl coenzyme A. The acetyl coenzyme A then enters the citric acid cycle (Krebs cycle), where energy is produced in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the body's energy currency.
During prolonged physical activities, endurance athletes rely heavily on efficient glucose metabolism for sustained energy. Without adequate thiamine, this conversion process is compromised, potentially leading to early fatigue and decreased performance.
Ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, is crucial for endurance athletes due to its antioxidant properties, its role in collagen production, immune system support, and its involvement in energy production and recovery. It helps athletes reduce oxidative damage from intense exercise, enhances muscle recovery, maintains tissue health, supports iron absorption for better oxygen transport, and boosts immune function. Ensuring adequate vitamin C intake is vital for sustaining performance, preventing injuries, and accelerating recovery in endurance sports.
Remember, you are taking a variety of supplements and foods during training, and each of them contains some form of filler. For instance, most carb mixers use lactose or gluten as a filler, while gels make use of cellulose and gelatin. These multiple fillers can affect your gastrointestinal system, potentially causing disturbances and altering absorption. Some fillers, such as starches and sugars, can cause bloating or other digestive discomforts. Supplements without these fillers can be gentler on your digestive system, particularly for those individuals who are sensitive to such ingredients.
Fillers, which are often used in medications or supplements, are added to increase bulk and make a product scoopable. They improve texture and extend shelf life, but they can sometimes trigger an allergic reaction or sensitivity in certain individuals. Common fillers such as lactose, gluten, or artificial dyes may cause issues for people with allergies.
Supplements without fillers are typically more concentrated in active ingredients. This means that the user receives a more direct dose of the product without additional substances that might dilute the efficacy of the active ingredient. For example, IPure contains 5 grams of pure functional ingredients and nothing else.
Fillers might interfere with how the body absorbs the active ingredient. In some cases, they can slow down relief or reduce the absorption rate, potentially leading to less effective results. Individuals who take many different supplements might find it easier to manage their regimen if they avoid medications containing excessive fillers.
We have not added any flavoring because flavor fatigue in sports nutrition is becoming a reality. However, the iBrand will launch with the carb formulation in a set of five different flavors, allowing you to choose which one you want each time—giving you complete control over the taste.
I-Pure will soon launch a carb formulation and protein recovery drink. The reason we didn't add any sugar to this formulation is to allow you to control the exact amount of carbohydrates you consume. In other words, for athletes who prefer to manage their carbohydrate intake separately—through gels or other sources—sugar-free electrolytes allow you to hydrate without altering your carb strategy.
It's also important to mention that Iure is keto-friendly and will not break your fast if you are following an intermittent fasting program. Taking in too much sugar can actually cause dehydration; sugar acts as a diuretic and, at high doses, a laxative. To prevent gut issues, we decided not to add sugar to our electrolyte formulation. This approach also makes it easy to add the electrolytes to your normal carb drink. Additionally, by providing a sugar-free electrolyte, this product is favorable for our diabetic athletes.
